Ria’s Line Up: August 20, 2017

Hello everyone!

It’s been a long while since I’ve prepared for one of these emails and I’m thankful, for the opportunity to serve again.

You don’t have to dig deep into the news these days to come to the conclusion we live in a tumultuous time. And as a new parent, I’ve never been more aware of it. I often wonder how we will explain this hatred to a child who only sees wonder and beauty and love…and how we are going to protect her from it all.

It doesn’t matter how long or deep of a conversation andrew and I have about it, we always come to the conclusion that we can’t. We can try our best to guide and protect her, but we don’t have the ability to prevent her from seeing, experiencing and knowing evil. Because of sin, evil is to be expected. It’s going to be around whether we like it or not and really, sin lives within each of us. But thank God for his love and grace…rescuing us from ourselves. Even the most evil of people can be made pure and clean by the blood of Jesus. How amazing is that!

Because of Christ in us, we have hope that God is the beginning and the end. This means everything in between is under His care. Even as things around us are get more chaotic, be it personally or the terrifying scenes on the news, God will continue to be the light in the darkness. To that we shall cling.

Here are some great passages to remember…

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:13-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
