There was yet another mass shooting today. It’s such a sad reality in our country and you can’t help but feel so helpless about it because we have no control over it. Yes, you can pass laws but people break laws every single day so there goes that. Man’s law is just not enough to protect us from all the evil in the world. We need Jesus. Desperately. All the more we need to be the light in this dark world.

But…John 16:33 says: I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. The older I get, the more I realize there’s very little I actually have control over–and even that is just on the surface–and trusting God with everything is absolutely necessary. Because it’s the only source of peace in spite of the outcome…in spite of the chaos…in spite of the brokenness.

I hope you find encouragement in the fact that the God who loves you and the God you serve and the God you call Father also calls you His…and He is very much in control even when what we see around us seems to be spinning out of control.

Here are the songs for Sunday:

Hello everyone!

It’s been a long while since I’ve prepared for one of these emails and I’m thankful, for the opportunity to serve again.

You don’t have to dig deep into the news these days to come to the conclusion we live in a tumultuous time. And as a new parent, I’ve never been more aware of it. I often wonder how we will explain this hatred to a child who only sees wonder and beauty and love…and how we are going to protect her from it all.

It doesn’t matter how long or deep of a conversation andrew and I have about it, we always come to the conclusion that we can’t. We can try our best to guide and protect her, but we don’t have the ability to prevent her from seeing, experiencing and knowing evil. Because of sin, evil is to be expected. It’s going to be around whether we like it or not and really, sin lives within each of us. But thank God for his love and grace…rescuing us from ourselves. Even the most evil of people can be made pure and clean by the blood of Jesus. How amazing is that!

Because of Christ in us, we have hope that God is the beginning and the end. This means everything in between is under His care. Even as things around us are get more chaotic, be it personally or the terrifying scenes on the news, God will continue to be the light in the darkness. To that we shall cling.

Here are some great passages to remember…

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong!”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3:13-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬
