Romans 12: 1-2
(The Message)

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

(New Living Translation)

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Coming back from family camp, I kept on thinking about our morning devotionals with our cell groups about being “the best of the best”. Reading about the story of Cain and Abel made me ponder on the question “Do I give God my best or do I just give him my leftover energy?” The Holy Spirit convicted me more and more as I repeated this question to myself. I think a lot of times we can be so picky with which areas of our lives we exert a lot of in and think that what we do is “enough”. Learning about giving our best made me realize that it involves every little thing we do because every second, every breath, every move we make is a product of our Father’s love. Whether it’d be cooking for your family, being a daughter or a son, a friend, a husband or wife, doing chores, etc. we are to give our best because God gave us His best through Jesus on the cross and He continues to give us His best through salvation. God deserves nothing but our best.

Like in the passage above, it says to offer our bodies as living sacrifices. Ultimately, our best response to our Father is to surrender our broken selves to Him. Sometimes we ask God, “God what can I do for you?” but I think God just wants more of us. He doesn’t need us but He seeks to have a relationship with us because He loves us in a way that the human mind can’t even comprehend. Al He wants is our full attention because He wants to work in us and transform us into the people he wants us to become. That’s why when we get distracted by the things of the world, God gets jealous because He wants us to be focused on Him alone. And as we’ve all probably heard at some point in our walk…living the Christian life is not an easy task to do. Jesus lived a very difficult but fulfilling life because he focused on His father’s will and nothing else. We’re never going to be perfect people but God promises us a transformed life as long as we continue to give him our best and surrender every bit of us to Him. God is more than willing to mold us into mature believers so we could become Christ-like. Give Him your all and seek His heart. 🙂

As I was spending time on this line up, I thought a lot about the process of worshiping God. At the base of our worship is our love for God and commitment to Him. Worship is the way we get to express ourselves to Him. Musical worship has this interesting dichotomy. We are both public worshipers in a position of leadership, but also private worshipers as God is looking at each of us individually. This carries a fair amount of responsibility because we are not only held accountable for our worship, but we are also held accountable for our leadership of others.

I know it seems like the worship leader or the singers are the most visible and noticed, but the way all of us worship (and how true our worship is) is seen by all. We’re all leaders, no matter our role and so it’s important for us to focus ourselves on the purpose – which is to express our love and gratitude to God.

Thank God for the opportunity to worship Him with music. Also, thank God for all of you and your love for Him. Your worship is always such a blessing and example to me  🙂

Matthew 22 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

Lately what’s been on my mind is worry. I never really thought of myself as a worrier but i’m the type of person who I guess worries on the inside and it physically manifests itself…and that’s usually when i realize I may be thinking about something too much. Worry will manifest itself into something…almost always into more worry, sometimes it manifests itself physically–wow…I’m 2 for 2! :/

While instasurfing recently, I came across a photo of Romans 8:25 with an accompanying caption:

25 “But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.”  There are different ways to wait. We can worry. We can fight it. We can try to bring our own answer to pass. OR we can be patient and remain calm! If God said He will do it, it is as good as done! Patience takes away worry because our gaze is no longer on the thing we are waiting for, but instead on Jesus!

You know that poster KEEP CALM & CARRY ON…that was produced by the british in the 1939–the start of WWII– to raise morale of the brits in the aftermath of some airstrikes. it was never displayed in public…and there were limited prints, but i guess it was discovered in 2000 and those who discovered it displayed it in their store and it got so popular they began to sell copies and it sort of snowballed from there. That’s an awesome message, right? But I think there’s an even better message found in the bible…in the book of Joshua, the Lord tells him to (1:9) BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS! DO NOT BE AFRAID OR DISCOURAGED. FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO. We’ve been given a book to equip us for when worry strikes, when fear strikes…and we only need to meditate in the words written in God’s book to help us place our worry back where it belong…in the hands of God.

With that said…here’s the line up:
