Mia’s Line Up: September 29, 2013

God revealed so much to me these past couple of days. Now I’m not going describe the whole story in detail because it’s a little long. Anyway, God’s been speaking to me a lot about trust. And I came across this very encouraging verse 🙂

Psalm 25: 1-11

“O Lord, I give my life to you. I trust in You, my God! Do not let me be disgraced, or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat. No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. Show me the right path, O Lord: point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you. Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love, which you have shown from long ages past. Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth. Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O God. The Lord is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands. For the honor of your name, O Lord, forgive my many, many sins.”

I was listening to Pastor’s sermon on Sunday and one thing he said that really stood out to me was when he said, “There’s no such thing as KINDA following Jesus.”  As Christians, we claim that we love God and all that but do we really mean it? This reminded me so much of Peter and I think we can very much relate to Him. Peter claimed that he loved Jesus, that he would follow Him and he trusts Him. But there were times when he doubted Jesus. I think all of us have some sort of Peter inside us. I just have to tie this in with the song “Oceans” because it’s message is just really powerful and it talks about TRUST; a border-less trust. I think we often find ourselves in our own boats and we get too comfortable riding it. Everyday is an opportunity to meet with Jesus and experience his love and grace but we worry too much about getting off that boat because the ocean holds the unpredictable. When we choose to stay in our boats, we let the waves carry us around not knowing where we’re headed to. Every moment of our lives, Jesus is calling out to us to come to him. But we have to learn to step out of our comfort zones (or “boats”) so we can slowly walk towards our Lord is. and I just love the bridge of the song.. it says “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters wherever you would call me.” Once we’ve learned to let go of our “boats”, all we can do is trust Him. Not KINDA trust Him, but FULLY trust him. Just as Peter took his eyes off Jesus, he slowly started to sink. Same thing goes for us. When waves hit us hard and conditions around us become unbearable, we lose our trust and focus in our Savior and start to drown in our worry. But if our eyes are on Him the whole time, we endure all the waves and wind. And at the end of each trial we go through, Jesus will be standing with his arms wide open, ready to embrace us. God gave His best, His own Son, so we can have a new life. God doesn’t deserve half, or a third or a little part of us. He deserves ALL of us because he gave His ALL through Christ. God doesn’t ask anything else from us because He is God. But because He loves us, and for Him to really know that we love Him, is to live a life that is fully surrendered to Him. And when we’ve learned to fully trust Him, he will lead us on the right path and He will just use us in ways that are beyond what we can imagine. His love has never given up on us– not even a single moment in our lives. And although we fall at times, His hand is holding us the whole time.

And just because camp was two months ago, doesn’t mean we stop RISING ABOVE THE FEAR. He knows our hearts better than we do. Trust that He CAN and WILL get us through the tough times.

Trina’s Line Up: September 22, 2013

I learned from Pastor Ed that this Sunday’s message is about the choosing of the apostles. I started dwelling on Scriptures about how the apostles were chosen and how they submitted to their calling. It is amazing how God has chosen Simon (Peter) and Andrew (who were ordinary fishermen), to do greater things for His glory. It also amazes me how Levi (Matthew) the tax collector has also been chosen by God. I still need to find out how the other apostles have been chosen. But I am once again reminded that God calls ordinary people and uses them to do extraordinary things for His kingdom—only if we surrender our lives to Him.

Being able to serve God through this worship team is a calling that we all have responded to. But every now and then, there will be times that we think we are unworthy to be doing this…or maybe we assess ourselves that we still have a lot to improve, we still have so much to learn and change in our attitude and ways. But I believe the Holy Spirit, which is another great gift from God, has been given to us so that we can do the work God has called us to do. Clearly, we cannot do works for God’s glory if our motives are our own. I have shared this last devotion, but let me just share it again. Sometimes, we (or I can say that I myself), forget that the Holy Spirit is present. I forget that He is with me and that He dwells in me. There were days that I lived my life knowing that there is a God…but I often forget that God is actually WITH me and is WITHIN me. I read 2 Corinthians 13:5, “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” It reminded me that as a follower of Christ, I should re-examine myself…and that I should always remember that my body is the home or temple of the Holy Spirit.

I believe the apostles were able to continue to do works because they have let the Holy Spirit lead their lives. They continued to trust God in the midst of difficult circumstances. They held on to God even if they all have the reasons to quit. They let God be the center of their lives.

We must also live a life being led by the Holy Spirit. We may never know what is yet to come but with God, only greater things are yet to come. We may feel like we are tired of doing what we are doing but trusting God to be the giver of strength and the molder of our lives will make a difference. The Holy Spirit enables us to do what God has called us to do… The bridge part of the song Oceans (Hillsong United) says, “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders, let me walk upon the waters…wherever you would call me.” May this be our prayer and may our lives be truly led by the Spirit.
