Jonathan’s Line Up: April 8, 2017

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week so far. It’s been a while since I’ve led, and I am always grateful for the opportunity to do so.

I feel as though the timing of my leading this week is almost coincidental. I recently received my response from San Diego State University, my top choice, saying I was not accepted to transfer in the fall. It hit me very hard, since I planned on being there in the fall. Now, I feel as though I need to figure out what I want to do all over again. But more than that, it hurts to know that I put so much hard work these past three years in community college only to come to this result. While it is frustrating that it all had to come to this, I remain hopeful knowing that this was just another way of God putting me on the right path. I know that I am headed towards something much greater than San Diego and that sociology degree I thought I wanted. And amidst all the disappointment and pain I feel because of this, I am happy because this only means that something better is in store for me.

It’s times like this when I am needed a reminder of God’s guidance and the strength he provides me, and thankfully I have the reminder on me always. It’s verses like Jeremiah 29:11 and of course Philippians 4:13 that remind me that God is with me throughout all of this and that there is absolutely no way I can fail. My rejection letter itself was not a failure, but a giant step in the right direction. And for all of this, I am thankful because God is with me.

Mia’s Line Up: March 24, 2017

As I was preparing the lineup for this Sunday the Lord really spoke to me about the importance of rest. As we go through our busy schedules each day, we often forget to pause and take a moment to rest. I’m very guilty of that because I often find myself juggling a lot of things at once and get easily overwhelmed. Eventually, we get burnt out or exhausted from the things we are called to do and be a part of whether it’s in church, school, work, and other responsibilities.
28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” -Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

In the passage, Jesus reminds us that we cannot find the truest kind of peace anywhere else but through Him and in His presence. There are many mentions in the word of Jesus resting in the midst of the chaos going on around Him, and it speaks volumes of the kind of peace that Jesus he possesses. He invites us to go to Him and that itself a promise that He will take care of our worries, our fears and all our doubts. In His presence do we really learn how to rest. Jesus even reassures us that He would never give us anything we cannot handle because He intends to teach us how to live in such a way that reflects our salvation and His grace.

I pray that despite our very busy schedules, that we learn to stop and sit at His feet to rest because there’s truly no other place more peaceful than in His embrace.

“No place I’d rather be than here in Your love.”

Here are the songs for this coming Sunday 🙂

Ana’s Line Up: March 19, 2017

Update for you guys: I decided that I would not take the route of going straight to medical school right after graduation. Rather, I got real with myself and with the Lord and decided to take a couple years off to gain more medical experience and exposure to patients and physicians. I want to be sure that this is where my passion lies, so yes. You can imagine that I started feeling pretty anxious, because I went from having a plan, to having no plan at all. The original plan was to study for the MCAT right away, take the exam, then apply for medical school. The new plan is “Now what…?”

However recently the Lord opened so many doors for me once I was honest with Him about my feelings of anxiety and insecurity about my future. Of the 3 doors He opened to me, I will share 1. My old friend randomly messaged me one day and asked how I’ve been and I told her I planned on taking a break after graduation to gain more experience and to see if medicine is what I really want to pursue. Shocked, she told me, “Really? My department here is always looking for new graduates that fit the description you just told me.” She happened to be the supervisor in her department at UCSF. We met up to talk more about it and since then I have been working with her on my resume. Whether or not I get the job, the Lord gave me a glimpse of what it’s like when I put my trust in Him despite being in the midst of fog, not knowing exactly where I am called to be. I am excited to see what will happen next, but I wanted to share this news with you all to testify that God is good all the time to each and every one of us. We just need to be sensitive to the blessings He surrounds us with.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

These verses resonate with me so much right now. I pray that if you are going through a time of doubt, anxiety, or insecurity, that you too will meditate on this and get real with God about how you are feeling and trust that He will take care of the rest. I love you all, see you at Jerald’s for practice on Saturday 🙂
